Welcome to Jar and Loaf!

Hi, I’m Ariel! I also go by Towanda, Kathy Bates’ character’s alter ego in Fried Green Tomatoes, but no one besides me ever calls me that.

I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. Like, watching it all the time kind of obsessed. This clip of Evelyn Couch going all GTA in the grocery store parking lot perfectly captures my essence: I’m quiet and unassuming when you first meet me, but as you get to know me, you’ll see I have layers! Just like Evelyn Couch. And an onion.

I wish everyone could #embraceyourinnertowanda. It’s so freeing to focus on what makes you happy. And starting this blog is a way for me to find my happiness.

Since I’m driven to find my happiness, I’ve decided to go all in on two ideas I’ve had for a long time:

  1. Trying recipes and giving notes to anyone who will listen.

  2. Selling homemade goods that don’t look very pretty but taste pretty good.

Jar and Loaf is my blog dedicated to trying out recipes and sharing notes about what works based on my experiences. I pick out what tastes good so you don’t have to. I also condense the recipes down, adding tips and measurements directly into the recipe instructions.

Jar and Loaf is also my business selling homemade goods such as salsa, hot sauce, sourdough and sandwich bread, pickles, jam, and freshly grown garden produce (from my little garden in Twin Falls, Idaho!), among other things that suit your fancy (I take special orders because I’m always up for trying something new).

Please consider subscribing to my website to receive updates because while this is a passion project I’m hoping takes off to support paying the bills, it’s also about more than that:

The kitchen is my happy place. It’s where I decompress and get lost, where I become the best version of myself.

Cooking is what I do best and take pride in, and I want to share my passion and ability to make good food with anyone willing to follow me on this journey.

Thank you for reading,

Ariel

P. S.

Shout out to Delwood for being my biggest supporter and the push I needed to start believing in myself. And for being my taste tester for the last decade. I couldn’t do it without you.
